Hillside Aluminium – Bake Furnace Refractory Maintenance Project

Aluref SA was awarded the Bake Furnace Refractory Maintenance Contract at Hillside Aluminium, involving the maintenance, refurbishment and replacement of critical refractory structures within the bake furnace.

As part of the project, the Aluref team was responsible for the manual demolition and in-situ rebuilding of flue walls. The work required the controlled removal of existing refractory while maintaining the structural integrity of the surrounding furnace and ensuring that the new refractory installation met the required quality, dimensional and performance standards.

The project also included the refractory lining of manual pouring ladles used in the Anode Rodding Shop. These ladles are subjected to demanding operating conditions and require a reliable refractory lining to provide thermal protection and withstand repeated exposure to molten aluminium.

The project demonstrated Aluref’s capability to execute specialised refractory maintenance and installation across multiple areas of an aluminium smelter, combining experienced personnel, controlled demolition techniques, specialist refractory installation and a strong focus on safety and quality.

Key Capabilities Demonstrated:

  • Bake furnace refractory maintenance and refurbishment
  • Manual refractory demolition
  • In-situ flue wall reconstruction
  • Specialist refractory installation
  • Manual pouring ladle refractory lining
  • Refractory maintenance in the Anode Rodding Shop
  • Work in high-temperature industrial environments
  • Planned maintenance and shutdown execution
  • Quality-focused refractory installation
  • Safety-focused project execution
